The Importance of a Safe and Secure Therapeutic Environment: A Journey Toward Spirituality
During my therapeutic studies, one core value that stood out to me was the importance of maintaining a safe and secure environment for healing. This concept became even more profound as we explored Carl Rogers’ three core conditions—unconditional positive regard, empathy, and congruence. I clearly remember the moment our lecturer introduced the idea of a fourth core condition: Spirituality. I immediately felt a deep connection to this idea, as though a missing piece of the puzzle had finally been revealed. However, my excitement turned to disappointment when I learned that no further research would be done on this topic, and the integration of spirituality into therapy seemed to be abandoned.
That sense of disappointment remained with me until I discovered Shamanism. In its teachings and practices, I found the link that had been missing all along—Shamanism bridged the gap between therapy and spirituality in a way I had never imagined. It opened my eyes to the deeper, spiritual dimensions of healing and how they could coexist with traditional therapeutic practices. Suddenly, everything made sense, and I felt a renewed sense of purpose to explore this powerful integration, knowing that it offered something profound for the healing process.
