Outlined below are the key roles of both client and therapist to give you a clearer understanding of the therapeutic process:
Communicate your needs to your Inner Voice Inner Journey therapist at your first meeting. It is important to have a clear understanding of the goals you would like to achieve during the therapeutic process.
Be mindful of the working agreement outlined by your therapist. This will ensure a solid foundation is in place as you start the therapeutic journey together.
Be regular and punctual with your appointments, and ensure your financial payments are paid in an efficient and timely manner. This action not only respects the therapist you have chosen to work with, but also places value on the therapeutic process as a whole, supporting your mental health.
Listen to what your therapist may suggest you do to support your mental health during your appointments i.e., journalling, creative tasks. Therapy is not just talk therapy, it requires actions outside of the therapy room to support the process.
Be honest with your therapist if you feel the working therapeutic relationship is not working for you. Outline reasons and discuss ways of going forward with your therapist.
