Dermot is a proud, openly autistic queer man and an experienced therapist who celebrates both neurodiversity and LGBTQIA+ identities. Before training as a therapist, he worked for over 20 years in the corporate world as an accountant, gaining valuable insight into high-pressure environments and workplace mental health.

In 2018, Dermot founded his private therapy practice, Inner Voice. With over 10 years of both professional and personal experience in therapy, he brings a grounded and compassionate approach to his work. His journey through therapy, combined with his life experience, strongly informs his practice.

In 2021, Dermot was formally diagnosed as autistic. This diagnosis has been a powerful turning point, enriching both his personal life and professional practice. His authenticity and openness help create a safe, inclusive space for clients of all backgrounds.

In 2023, he expanded his work by taking over the management of a therapy centre, now known as Inner Voice Inner Journey. In addition to working as a practicing psychotherapist, Dermot is the Clinical Director of the centre. Its mission is to support the mental health and well-being of the neurodiverse community through psychotherapy, community support, and spirituality.

As an integrative therapist, Dermot works across a range of issues including low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, sexuality, men’s health, anger management, and neurodiversity. He also brings a unique spiritual dimension to his work through shamanic practices. His lived experience adds depth and relatability to the support he provides, particularly to LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients.

Moreover, Dermot regularly leads workshops and speaks on topics such as stress management, diversity and belonging, men’s mental health, LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and neurodiversity. These workshops are offered both in person and online, making them accessible to a wider audience.

Outside of his professional life, Dermot is an enthusiastic runner. To date, he has completed three Dublin Marathons, which speaks to his commitment, resilience, and drive.
